Weekly Farm Newsletter

Dear Folks,

Someone smart and famous said “all the great revolutions in history were silent.”  Last night we were reminded how true that is and how momentous
s it is to be part of the LOCAL FOOD REVOLUTION.

This past year we have been part of 6 different markets in various communities.  Each of them started with just a few individuals working together and grew rapidly into quite impressive weekly markets.

So last night, again we were part of a market start-up potluck at a church hall in Dardanelle.  The group included retired individuals, blue-collar and white collar professionals, full-time Moms, farmers, etc.  Such a powerful mixture of food eaters…and food raisers.  In the most robust neighborhood markets, some of the customers have become sellers…not just products they grow or make but sometimes services they provide.  (Last week, the knife sharpener at one of our markets sharpened over 200 items.)

One major benefit of these expanding community markets is the encouragement it provides new local farmers to sell what they raise.  Both the producer and customer benefit.

The new neighborhood market group is just west of Petit Jean Farm.  We have now reached one of our beginning goals to create local markets in a complete circle around the farm in each direction.

Imagine the revolution that will occur when thousands of farmers across the country can say they are surrounded by their market!  Thank you for your part in making that happen.
