Dear Folks,
Today we got our third sure sign that spring is really, truly, finally, on the way! The peepers have been peeping for a few weeks now, and will have to be quieted a few more times before they can stay out completely. This morning the first sunny yellow daffodil opened up its bud at our place. What brave little flowers to bloom even with the risk of more frost to come. There’s nothing like a daffodil to make us anticipate spring! The most convincing sign that spring is here is just down the road. Our neighbor has his garden tractors out for sale! All winter he repaints and refurbishes irresistible 8N Fords and Farmall Cubs. When people even breathe a thought about their spring gardens, out they come.
We have lots to look forward to this spring. The store at the Carmona Center in Hot Springs Village is well underway. This collaborative effort between farmers and customers truly benefits the community. It is an example of the authentic partnership that Slow Food calls for: customers becoming co-producers alongside farmers.
Our goal is to get food into mouths in the most direct process possible. At Friday markets you will be able to buy produce to take home and eat within 24 hours of its being picked. Now that is freshness! For those who can’t make it to the Friday outdoor market, the indoor store is expected to be available four days each week, thanks to volunteers.
For this week’s purchases, visit our website to see the latest available inventory at www.petitjeanfarm.com/farminventory.html . Please send us your order by phone (501-727-5714) or by e’mail (ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com) by noon on Thursday, February 26. We will be at the Transportation Plaza in downtown Hot Springs from 12:00 to 1:00 and at the Carmona Center at the Hot Springs Village from 3:00 to 5:00 on Friday, February 27.
Enjoy the signs of spring!
