Dear Folks,
Living close to the land is anything but boring! Friday markets were held in picnic weather while some water lines at the farm were still frozen shut.
The last ice chuck disappeared just yesterday so every animal paddock has running water to drink again. The sheep, especially, came through a cold snap looking fat and happy. Their idea of "cold management" is to eat twice as much as normal.
With 2010 well underway, available inventory will allow us to offer the 50/50 Family Packs through the rest of January. Beginning in February, we plan to run the first SALE for CSA Food Farm Memberships (card holders).
With Stutzman Hoop Home Tomatoes coming ripe in February, we will offer 25% off on bacon for your BLTs. This will include freshside bacon or smoked bacon. For the month of February Petit Jean Farm CSA members can purchase bacon, loin chops, and chickens for 25% off. (Limit 2 per order).
NOTE: If a card holder were to buy the whole allotment each week of February, you would have recovered 75% of your $50 membership by the end of February!
SPECIAL NEWS ALERT!
Petit Jean Farm is humbly grateful to the many people who have worked so hard to make markets work in various locations. This week marked the first regular drop day (Wednesday) for the Dardanelle/Russellville area. We plan to meet customers from 1:30 to 2:30 each Wednesday at B'iet Chaim Derech Messianic Synagogue parking lot (This is located on Hwy. 7, the first left after 4th St.) Of course we can also meet you at First Presbyterian Church in Dardanelle if that is better for you.
Our original goal was to provide food to neighbors in a complete circle (N E S W) around the farm. It seems to us that if the whole country could/would adopt a similar model, it would be better (more secure, fresher, more wholesome, less costly, etc.) for customers and farmers.
Our schedule for Downtown Hot Springs is 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Transportation Plaza. The Village Community Market remains the same, meeting on Fridays from 2:30 to 5:00 P.M. Our new location at the Messianic Synagogue on Hwy. 7 in Russellville is 1:30 to 2:30 on Wednesday. The Locally Grown websites operating this week are Little Rock, Conway, Spa City, and VCM.
Orders for Russellville need to be in by 5:00 P.M on Monday. Orders for the Hot Springs and Little Rock need to be made by noon on Thursday by calling us at 501-727-5659 or emailing ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com.
