Dear Folks,
When the sun came up this morning, it found a shivering but enthusiastic group gathered at Felder Farm on the south side of Little Rock. Semis whizzed by on the interstate, the river swirled down below, and industrial parks and residential neighborhoods made up the other borders. Nestled amid all the activity and asphalt is this gem. Felder Farm is part of Felder Academy, a 6th – 12th grade alternative learning program. The farm is also a place where members of ASN (the Arkansas Sustainability Network) work with students getting their hands in the dirt.
ASN was featured this morning on site on Felder Farm on Channel 4’s 6:00 News. The TV spot also starred two lambs from Petit Jean Farm. If you missed the live broadcast, you can watch it online at www.arkansasmatters.com. Click on the tab for KARK 4 Today.
The garden spot at Felder Farm, like a blade of grass pushing its way up through the sidewalk, is a great tangible image of the persistence of Mother Nature. We haven’t Rounded Up the entire planet yet! What an encouraging reminder.
In other realms of growth, we are constantly encouraged by the ongoing developments of all the various markets we participate in. We recently mentioned the locally grown network that includes ASN/Little Rock (www.littlerock.locallygrown.net), Conway (www.conway.locallygrown.net), and Hot Springs Village (www.village.locallygrown.net). There is another locally grown online market available in Hot Springs as well: Spa City Co-op. Spa City is persistent in promoting local food and healthy living. You can order online at www.spacity.locallygrown.net. Another option in Little Rock is the Station Grocery. They opened in February, and offer green grocery items and a delicious deli.
With all the other activity going on this week, it would be easy to forget that this weekend is Easter. If you have any special Easter requests, be sure to send those to us as soon as possible. Yes, we will be making a delivery on Good Friday, this Friday, April 10. We will be the Transportation Plaza in downtown Hot Springs from noon till 1:00 pm, and at the Carmona Center in Hot Springs Village from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. We need your orders by noon on Thursday, April 9. You can view our inventory list at www.petitjeanfarm.com/farminventory.html and send your orders by phone (501-727-5659), by e’mail (ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com), or online.
Keep growing well!
