Dear Folks,
Imagine a place where good food means local food. Many of you already know this is true and demonstrate it by buying local meat. Local food is the best food, and this equation is becoming more and more widely known.
Austin, Texas, is a place where local food is appreciated. To be a really nice restaurant, serving local in-season fare is almost always a requirement. However, a local menu is not elitist or unreasonably expensive. One charming Austin café has tomatoes growing along the front walk and a full garden out back, complete with chickens for fresh eggs! Compare their food shipping costs and fossil fuel consumption to anywhere else.
The movement toward eating locally is for everyone! It is exciting to be able to participate in something that helps the environment, lowers true cost, and tastes delicious all at the same time. Austin’s attitude didn’t happen overnight, and neither will ours. With each Petit Jean Farm lamb steak, though, we are one tasty step closer to a locally oriented food culture.
Don’t forget that we are still taking orders for quarters and halves of beef, pork, and lamb. This is a great way to get the advantage of a bulk purchase without needing the freezer space of an entire order. If you’re looking for the illusive cow that is all steak, order a hind quarter of beef. We will be taking orders for those soon, but you can let us know that you’re interested.
We will be taking orders for this weekend by phone (50¬1-727-5659), by e’mail (ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com), or online until noon on Thursday. Please visit our website at www.petitjeanfarm.com/farminventory.html to see a current list of available inventory. We look forward to seeing you this weekend!
Keeping food local,
