Dear Folks,

It’s time to place your bulk orders!  Fall is on its way and will be here before we know it.  Harvest for us is already underway.  Soon the butcher shop coolers will be full.  If you want one of those sides of beef, pork, or lamb hanging to be designated for you, be sure to let us know as soon as possible.  If you order early, not only can we make sure you get the meat you want, but you can also specify any custom cutting you want.  Just be sure to let us know!

With fall approaching, this is a good time to stock the pantry as well as the freezer.  I had a bit of adventure in canning this year.  We had picked some delicious blackberries recently but hadn’t had time to make them into jam and jelly immediately, so I put them in the fridge.  When I came back to them I was worried that perhaps I had left them too long.  I dreaded finding out that all the time and scratches invested in picking would be wasted.  Anxious about mold, I peeked into the blackberry pitcher. . .  Not a single blackberry was spoiled.  One whiff, however, explained everything.  They had fermented!  I proceeded with jam making and ended up with a wonderful result, not a bit worse for the extra bite.

We hope your own culinary adventures are going well.  Don’t forget to stock up on steak and burger, chops and sausage, and to put in your bulk orders now.  You can place your order this week by calling 501-727-5659 or e’mailing ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com by noon on Thursday or by ordering through the online markets.

We look forward to seeing you at the market!
