Dear Folks,

While I was setting up our booth at the Farmers’ Market in Little Rock Saturday, I had the opportunity to look down the row of vendors.  The scenery changed as the lighting went from electric bulbs to natural sunlight.  The mood seemed to change with the lighting.  Just as it got brighter, the vendors got livelier.  The community of farmers and artisans is most evident at this time of day.  Expectations for good sales, seeing loyal customers, and meeting new people are the common objectives for the day.

I got to meet an older gentleman who also keeps bees.  We talked about the different theories behind the Colony Collapse Syndrome.  Although neither one of us believe cell phones are the cause, we did agree that there has been a lack of stewardship to our land over the years that contribute to the bees disappearing in the country.

These conversations with consumers who care about good, healthy food make market worth the very early mornings and late night preparation time.  Knowing that Farmers’ Market season doesn’t last forever doesn’t mean an ending of this at all.  We will still be able to service all those who do care about their food all year.   Little Rock will continue in conjunction with the Arkansas Sustainable Network (Christ Episcopal Church – corner of 6th & Scott) every Saturday from 10:00-12:00 A.M. at the beginning of October.  Hot Springs doesn’t start a new season until November.  However, last winter’s schedule will resume for Hot Springs at that time.  So be sure to look us up at the Carmona Center in Hot Springs Village and at the Transportation Plaza downtown.

So we will still be able to see all of you year round!  As for this weekend, we will see you this weekend as usual.  Your orders can be made by noon on Thursday by calling us at 501-727-5659 or emailing ed@gatewayfarm-ar.com.  To check our available inventory, visit our website at www.petitjeanfarm.com/farminventory/html.  You can also use your favorite locallygrown.net online market.
